Basamro International Chess Tournament, 6th-9th October 2016, Murmansk
The Basamro International Chess Tournament was developed by the Dutch and Russian Chess Federations. Now in it’s fourth year it has alternated between Murmansk and Rotterdam. Each year additional guest teams are invited to compete and this year Sussex Junior Chess were invited along with Paris, Leningrad and Novorossiysk.
Alongside the junior team event there is also a 4 game match between former world champion GM Anatoly Karpov and GM Jan Timman.

9th October
Joint third on match points.. 4th on tiebreak!
Then a chance to experience Russian chess school today, followed by exchange chess with the Dutch tonight A northern lights trip is on with a 50% chance of seeing them!
8th October
Round 4 – a tense and close fought battle going right to the end of the round with our youngest players fighting to the last minutes for a fantastic close victory against Pathena Rotterdam
6th October
A quick note to confirm we had a great result today with a 4-4 draw against the reigning champions from Paris. Hope you are all watching and supporting on chess24.com. Tomorrow we play two strong Russian teams…Novorossiysk and Leningrad.
5th October
Just a quick confirmation we are all now at the Park Inn, Murmansk.
Today we saw a geology museum in Kirovsk and saw some Sussex war graves from 1919 in Murmansk.
4th October
We have arrived safely at our stopover Kirovsk. Early start tomorrow!
