Under 11 Squad 4-team Match, Sunday 28th February 2021

Sussex Under-11s vs She Plays to Win, Staffordshire, & Suffolk

Thanks to Tim Kent and Edmund Player (Suffolk), Jonathan Blackburn (Staffordshire) and IM Lorin D’Costa (SPTW) for making this match possible.

Congratulations to She Plays to Win Team for their victory, but we ran them close!

In round 1 we were paired against Suffolk and scored a fine 15-5 victory. It was very close over the top boards, but our lower boards had a great day.

In round 2 we faced She Plays to Win who had given us a resounding beating just 3 weeks ago. This time bolstered by the return of our girls and under-9s we came so close but were pipped 12-8.

I saw many encouraging signs of the children adapting to the longer time control. This is important as the national finals will be at this time control of 25 mins plus 5 secs increment.

Next week, Sat March 6th 2pm-4pm, is a friendly arena lichess event preparing for the national championships. All the children playing today will be involved although the under 9s and girls will sadly be leaving me for the day to play for the other Sussex teams.
