Online Chess Opportunities for SJC Players

Crowborough Chess Club and the Worthing Knights Junior Chess Club both have online offerings which they are opening up to any Sussex Junior Chess player:

Worthing Knights Online tournaments

SJC Coach David Graham is running online tournaments on Thursdays; 5:15 – 6:45pm.

These are free and you can join in for as long as you wish; you do not have to play the whole 1.5 hours.

You will need a lichess account –  https://lichess.org/ – for safeguarding reasons you MUST contact Dave with both your real name and your Lichess name.

Crowborough Chess Club Online Chess Events

Nominal joining fee of £10 (covering September to December) gives access to the following:

Thursdays 5:30pm – 6:00pm – online training (beginners) via Zoom. Players may then join in with the Worthing Knights tournaments above.

Saturday Fortnightly – Under-16s can play as part of the Crowborough team in the Worldwide Junior event which takes place every other Saturday at 4:00pm with Zoom commentary (the next one is Sat 10th Oct)

You will also be able to play in the following events (open to juniors and adults)

  • the weekly chess variant tournament Wednesdays at 6pm
  • the weekly tournament on Fridays 6:30pm-9:00pm on lichess (with ZOOM call alongside for chat and banter)
  • occasional Special Events such as commentary and participation in talks on world chess events, like the successful recent David Howell talk
