Congratulations to Arjun Kolani – runner up in the Terafinal Under 14 section.
Following the national cancellations of over the board chess due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the UK Chess Challenge organisers moved swiftly to adapt the format – moving the Megafinals and Gigafinals online using the Lichess platform.
The season came to its conclusion last weekend (5th/6th September) with the Terafinal. The new format consisted of a 7-round rapidplay to separate the top 4 in each section who went on to compete in a semi-final and then final to determine the top 4 places overall. Everyone else became a “challenger” competing over another 6 rounds to determine the other places.
Several Sussex players had made the final 250. Arjun was our only ‘top 4’ placer but well done to Samuel Merchant (U8), Thomas Irani (U10), Kit Blades and Elena Currah (U12) who all scored 50% or more against the best in the country.
