Surrey vs Sussex 28th January 2023
The Sussex U14 and U16 squads recently travelled to Wallington to take on a very strong Surrey team. The U14 managed a decent 4 points in round 1, despite being out rated by at least 100ecf points on most boards. Round 2 was even better, scoring 8 points and almost drawing the round. Had there been a third round I’m sure we would have scored better still.
The U16s were on fire, scoring a massive 9 points out of the 12 available over the 2 rounds.
For a large number of the players in both squads it was their first opportunity to represent the county, the experience will have been great for them. The atmosphere in the team room was fantastic and we recieved a really nice thank you letter from our hosts regarding our friendly nature and general behaviour on the day.
We are now looking forward to 3 more matches in the series.
