Sussex Martlets 4NCL Teams
The Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) is a team tournament over three divisions, with over 850 players taking part and almost £10,000 in cash prizes on offer. Their website claims “it
is the most prestigious team chess event held in the United Kingdom”!
Sussex Junior Chess sponsors 3 mixed-age teams captained by ex-Sussex junior Rhys Cumming, with admin backup by experienced SJC team manager Sue Howell. Players are drawn from SJC’s older juniors and associated adults. The objective is to develop our older juniors with exposure to FIDE rated longplay.
The 1st team play in Division 2; the 2nd team in Division 3 South; and this season the newly formed 3rd team start out in Division 4.

Division 2 has two parallel pools of 8 teams. Over the first 7 rounds Sussex Martlets will play all the other teams in their pool. After round 7, the pools are reformed with the top 4 teams from both pools going into a Championship Pool, and the bottom four going into a Demotion Pool.
Sussex came 2nd in their pool so are safe from relegation and progress to the Promotion Pool.
